Beal is native to the Indian subcontinent  having immense importance not only in hinduism but in buddhism and jainism. The has is very sacred and has been worshiped for centuries. According to ancient scriptures this tree is beloved to Lord Shiva and goddess laxmi. This tree is mentioned in “Shri Suktam” in Rigveda. 
It is believed that to plant this tree at home, temple premises will bring all types of happiness and wealth. 
It's a fruit tree. Having recognised medicinal benefits as mentioned in various texts of ayurveda. In traditional therapy almost all parts of the tree including leaves, bark , roots are used.   
The tree is extremely beneficial for the environment. And one of the high carbon accumulating tree species. 
बेल भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप का मूल वृक्ष है जिसका न केवल हिंदू धर्म में बल्कि बौद्ध धर्म और जैन धर्म में भी अत्यधिक महत्व है। यह बहुत पवित्र है और सदियों से इसकी पूजा की जाती रही है। प्राचीन शास्त्रों के अनुसार यह वृक्ष भगवान शिव और देवी लक्ष्मी को प्रिय है। इस वृक्ष का उल्लेख ऋग्वेद में "श्री सूक्तम" में मिलता है।
मान्यता है कि इस पेड़ को घर, मंदिर परिसर में लगाने से सभी प्रकार के सुख-संपदा की प्राप्ति होती है।
यह एक फलदार पेड़ है। आयुर्वेद के विभिन्न ग्रंथों में वर्णित औषधीय लाभों को मान्यता प्राप्त है। पारंपरिक चिकित्सा में पत्तियों, छाल, जड़ों सहित पेड़ के लगभग सभी भागों का उपयोग किया जाता है।
पेड़ पर्यावरण के लिए बेहद फायदेमंद है। और उच्च कार्बन जमा करने वाले वृक्ष प्रजातियों में से एक है।
